This year at the virtual American Pharmacists Associations (APhA) annual meeting WSU pharmacy students made waves: Carissa Teeters, class of 2023, presented and passed a resolution during the house of delegates; Zachary Coleman, class of 2022, was selected to serve as the chair of the national Policy Standing Committee; the WSU chapter of APhA-ASP (APhA-Academy of Student Pharmacists) received the Operation Immunization 2019-2020 First Runner-Up Award; and second-year Kennedy Erickson was elected APhA-ASP President by her peers across the nation. WSU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences students put their training into practice assisting with arrival testing in Pullman ahead of the start of the Spring 2021 semester.
More than a dozen pharmacy students helped Pullman students who live off campus with their COVID-19 nasal swab tests, providing instruction on how to administer the test and ensuring samples are handled and stored properly. Second-year pharmacy student Colin Beauvais has always been a self-starter and an active student as the Vice President of Legislative Affairs. So when he expressed an interest in the business side of pharmacy, his preceptor and faculty mentor helped to guide his entrepreneurial spirit in setting up a travel clinic serving the Portland, Oregon area. What do pharmacy and painting have in common? According to first-year pharmacy student Karen Vo: a lot.
When Vo started in the Doctor of Pharmacy program at WSU in fall of 2019 she was among many new student pharmacists being asked to tell their new classmates about themselves.
“It’s still weird to say, I’m an artist,” she recalls.
But that is precisely what she is.
