Managing diabetes during the COVID-19 pandemic

The deleterious impact that the COVID-19 virus has on people living with diabetes is now well known. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), people living with diabetes are at higher risk of severe illness due to COVID-19.  When the American Diabetes Association (ADA), a non-profit that seeks to educate the public about diabetes, had to quickly pull together a panel of experts to study the impact the virus has on people living with diabetes, they called on WSU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences professor, Joshua Neumiller, who has dedicated his professional life to researching diabetes.

Shobhan Gaddameedhi promoted to associate professor

Shobhan GaddameedhiSPOKANE, Wash. – Shobhan Gaddameedhi has been promoted from assistant professor to associate professor with tenure, effective July 1, 2020, at the WSU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Gaddameedhi’s research lab centers on how circadian clock disruption influences anti-cancer drug treatment efficacy, DNA repair, inflammation and environmental carcinogenesis. Filling gaps in primary care takes creativity

A need to fill gaps in primary care is driving new approaches to health care workforce development in Washington, including at the WSU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Panelists discussed their organizations’ strategies at Inland Northwest State of Reform, an annual health policy conference.

Julie Akers, clinical associate professor at the WSU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, said the college is preparing students for a future that may look quite different from traditional pharmacy roles.

Spokane, Wash.— Recently College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Vice Dean for External Relations Linda Garrelts MacLean and student pharmacist Megan Baker participated in the National Community Pharmacists Association’s Steering Committee Forum. The annual two-day event in Alexandria, Va. is dedicated to wide-ranging, in-depth discussions of the role independent community pharmacies play in health care and how to best position them for the future.
