USTUR associate in research Stacey McComish presented a poster titled, “Death certificates vs. autopsy reports: misclassification of causes of death among USTUR Registrants”, at the 17th International Congress for Radiation Research in Montréal, Canada on August 30, 2023. USTUR associate in research Xirui Liu, USTUR adjunct faculty Florencio Martinez, and USTUR Director and Professor Sergey Tolmachev were faculty co-authors.

Xirui Liu presented a poster titled, “Impact of death certificate misclassifications on radiation cancer risk estimates”, at the 17th International Congress for Radiation Research in Montréal, Canada on August 30, 2023. Stacey McComish and Sergey Tolmachev were faculty co-authors.

USTUR associate professor Maia Avtandilashvili, Stacey McComish, and Sergey Tolmachev were co-authors on a presentation, “Modeling of a unique USTUR dataset: female nuclear worker treated with chelation therapy after plutonium inhalation”, at the 17th International Congress for Radiation Research in Montréal, Canada on August 27, 2023.

Maia Avtandilashvili and Sergei Tolmachev were co-authors on the presentation, “Long-term retention of plutonium in the respiratory tract compartments: chemical binding, scar-tissue retention, or systemic uptake?” at the 68th Annual Meeting of the Health Physics Society (HPS Annual Meeting) in National Harbor, MD on July 25, 2023.

USTUR research assistant professor Martin Šefl presented, “Plutonium in Rocky Flats Workers: Using Post-mortem Tissue Analyses to Evaluate Organ Content and Dose Estimates Based on Monitoring Data”, at the HPS Annual Meeting on July 25, 2023. Maia Avtandilashvili and Sergey Tolmachev were faculty co-authors.

Sergey Tolmachev presented, “Improving Uncertainty Estimates of Plutonium Activity Concentration in Human Skeleton from Individual Bone Sample Analyses”, at the HPS Annual Meeting on July 25, 2023. Maia Avtandilashvili, Martin Šefl, and USTUR associate professor George Tabatadze were faculty co-authors.

George Tabatadze presented, “Mapping ²²⁶Ra Micro-Distribution in Radium Dial Painter Skeleton”, at the HPS Annual Meeting on July 25, 2023. Sergey Tolmachev was a faculty co-author.

Joshua Neumiller presented a national webinar for the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES) on September 6, 2023 titled: “Update on Diabetes Care and Education in People with Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease.”

Joshua J. Neumiller presented a national webinar for Pharmacy Times Continuing Education (PTCE) titled: “Tailoring recommendations for people living with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease: The role of the pharmacist” on September 12, 2023.

Service

Grants & Awards

Pharmaceutical Sciences assistant professor Hui Zhang received $1,775,908 from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for a research project titled, “Mechanism of double-negative T cells in antitumor immunity to breast cancer.”
