Travis Denton was invited by the American Society for Neurochemistry to serve on the Education and Public Policy Committee.

Russ Crutchley was recently approved for a new position as extraordinary professor at University of Western Cape School of Pharmacy. The appointment last three years.

Josh Neumiller is serving a two-year term on the American Diabetes Association (ADA)’s National Scientific and Medical Programs Oversight Committee.

Pharmacotherapy Academic Resident Lee Roy Esposo and Pharmacotherapy Assistant Professor Lexie Powell have been appointed board members for the Spokane Pharmacy Association. Read more

On January 31, 2023, The Spokesman Review had an article on the front page (below the fold) that featured Julie Akers, Angie Stewart, Megan Undeberg, and several students and alumni.

Pharmacotherapy Associate Professor Cheyenne Frazier received a letter of commendation from the American College of Clinical Pharmacy for her work on their Pharmacotherapy Self-Assessment Program.

Grants & Awards

Pharmaceutical Sciences Professor Mary Paine recently received the prestigious Rawls-Palmer Progress in Medicine Award, from the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT). The goal of the Rawls-Palmer Progress in Medicine Award is to incorporate the efforts of modern research in patient care and to help bridge the gap between the results of research and its application in patient care.

Pharmaceutical Sciences Associate Professor John Clarke was selected for the Achievement Award from the Society of Toxicology (SOT) award in recognition of his work in precision medicine and environmental toxicology. The award recognizes an SOT member who has made significant contributions to toxicology within 15 years of obtaining their highest earned degree. Clarke will be honored during the 2023 SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo, March 19–23, 2023 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Sheena Sharma (Prasad lab) was selected as the Drug Metabolism and Disposition Highlighted Trainee Author for December 2022.

Rakshit Tanna (Paine lab) was selected as a recipient of the prestigious American Society for Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics (ASCPT) 2023 Presidential Trainee Award for his abstract, “Clinical assessment of the drug interaction potential of the psychotropic natural product kratom (Mitragyna speciosa).”

PharmD/PhD student James Nguyen (Paine lab) received a travel award from ASCPT to attend the 2023 annual meeting and present his abstract as a poster, “Assessing the goldenseal-metformin pharmacokinetic interaction in type 2 diabetics.”

Laken Kruger (Prasad Lab) with faculty co-authors Pharmaceutical Sciences Associate in Research Guihua Yue, Pharmaceutical Sciences Associate Professor, Bhagwat Prasad and six other co-authors published, “An optimized proteomics-based approach to estimate blood contamination and cellular heterogeneity of frozen placental tissue,” in the peer-reviewed journal Placenta in December 2022.

Washington State University College of Pharmacy – Yakima Campus won the 2022 ASHP Midyear Competition for having the highest percentage of class of 2023 student registrants.
