Service

  • In September, Megan Undeberg participated in the Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) Rural Health Research Innovation Cluster (RIC) meeting in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The RIC is a collaborative initiative that brings together member universities and stakeholders to address critical challenges in rural healthcare across the United States. The cluster focuses on four key priority areas:
    • Workforce shortages, including recruitment and retention
    • Access to healthcare
    • Women’s health
    • Emergency preparedness and resilience

Megan participated in the Workforce Shortages workgroup, contributing to discussions and collaborative problem-solving efforts aimed at strengthening the rural healthcare workforce and improving recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Megan Undeberg completed three weeks of teaching in September as part of the annual Mukogawa Institute Japanese Pharmacist Exchange Students English Intensive Immersion Program, which WSU helps support. The Mukogawa U.S. Campus, located adjacent to Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC), serves as the extension campus of Mukogawa Women’s University in Nishinomiya, Japan. During the program, Megan delivered lectures and facilitated discussions on:
    • What Is Pharmacy? – An overview of pharmacy practice in the United States and the diverse career opportunities available to pharmacists.
    • Medication Reconciliation – The importance of accurate medication histories and transitions of care.
    • Rural Pharmacy in the United States – An introduction to rural pharmacy practice, presented as part of a broader series preparing students for site visits in Spokane and surrounding communities.

Through these efforts, Megan continues to promote global pharmacy education while highlighting the unique opportunities and impact of pharmacy practice in rural and underserved communities.
