Stephanie Staniewski Memorial Scholarship in Pharmacy

This scholarship was established to honor the life of Stephanie Staniewski, pharmacy class of 1991, by her husband Dr. John Staniewski. Stephanie was a loving wife, mother, and daughter, who was raised in Moscow, Idaho. When her three young children were in school full time, it became apparent that she might want to go back to school, even though she had already earned a Master’s Degree. John made up a story about needing to go to WSU and stop by the College of Pharmacy to pick up a textbook and asked Stephanie to come with him. Of course this was a ruse, and while there, Stephanie interacted with faculty at the college, realized that pharmacy school sounded very interesting, and started attending right away. It was a decision she never regretted. Stephanie greatly enjoyed her pharmacy career, particularly her patient interaction and advocacy for their care. She spent the majority of her career at Kroger Pharmacy in Tennessee. In 2012, John and Stephanie returned to North Idaho to help her parents take care of the family farm in Moscow. A year later she was diagnosed with brain cancer, which would eventually take her life. On April 25, 2020, Stephanie, 68, passed away peacefully in her sleep while surrounded by her family.

The distributions from this Fund shall be used to provide support to one or more non-traditional students who are seeking a PharmD degree from the WSU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
