New Scholarship to Honor Pharmacy Alumnus

A pharmacy scholarship program has been established to honor Bill Gaskins, 1969 College of Pharmacy graduate,  clinical pharmacy instructor,  WSU Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, and director of pharmacy at Pullman Regional Hospital for 43 years.

The Bill Gaskins Pharmacy Scholars Fund will provide support to scholarships for students training in rural pharmacy. Pullman Regional Hospital is a site for clinical rotations for pharmacy students and provides students with a rural pharmacy practice experience. Dr. R. Keith Campbell, a long-time colleague of Gaskins and distinguished professor in diabetes care and pharmacotherapy said, “Bill is one of the most generous men I know. His leadership and donation of his time has played a vital role in the development of WSU’s College of Pharmacy, Pullman Hospital and the community. He has also promoted diversity in health care that is so needed and served many years on the Pullman City Council.”

As a clinical instructor for the College of Pharmacy, Gaskins has mentored and trained more than 300 students. He played football for WSU 1962-66 and was inducted into the hall of fame in 1990. He volunteered to referee Cougar football scrimmages and donated more than 1,000 hours over 40 years to help the track program. He has been married to Felicia Gaskins for more than 48 years; they are WSU diversity advocates and leaders.
