About Me
I was born and raised in Spokane and was initially pulled to pharmacy due to my interest in chemistry during high school. I originally was going to major in computer science, but my high school advisor convinced me that since I enjoyed organic chemistry I would probably like studying pharmacy-related topics (she was right!). The most fun part of my undergraduate academic life was working in a toxicology lab at WSU studying the impact of Vitamin E in treating cancer.
After graduating from WSU with my Doctor of Pharmacy, I agonized over pursuing a PhD in Toxicology out of state or becoming a clinical pharmacist. I eventually decided on post-graduate clinical pharmacy residency training. After finishing my residencies (including a PGY2 adult critical care residency), I earned a master’s in business administration due to my interest in finance and the business-side of health care. I have worked in adult critical care and infectious disease for most of my professional life, working with exceptional people to care for the most severely-ill and helping to improve and optimize their care. Fitting in teaching opportunities has always been a priority for me throughout my career. I have volunteered to teach various lectures at WSU over the years (including an entire Personal Finance elective course for a number of years) and I was a lecturer for first-year medical students at the University of Washington medical school for several years.
In addition to my years in critical care and infectious disease, I spent three years managing a retail pharmacy helping them make a difficult transition and immediately prior to joining the faculty at the WSU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences I was the pharmacy purchasing manager for large hospital system in Eastern Washington where I was heavily involved in inventory and contract management for both our inpatient hospital and our outpatient infusion centers.
I teach the first-year pharmacy courses of PharDSci 508 Pharmaceutics I, PharDSci 518 Pharmaceutics II, and PharDSci 504 Pharmacy Calculations.
In my spare time I like to…
I’m a mediocre golfer and imprecise woodworker; in addition, I love NBA basketball and board games.
Why WSU?
I’ve worked in hospitals for 19 years and always enjoyed precepting students and new hires and participating in part-time teaching opportunities. While I have frequently dabbled in instruction – I finally found a good opportunity to commit full time to helping train the next generation of pharmacists here at the WSU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Go Cougs!
