Phase 1 of ASHP residency matches were released in mid-March and the results for the Class of 2026 currently stand at a 90% match rate. 19 out of the 21 fourth-year pharmacy students who participated in the ASHP match placed. The overall Phase I match rate places WSU in the #1 spot of all pharmacy schools in the Pacific Northwest and the West Coast.

Class 2025 also had an outstanding show with a 100% PGY2 match rate.

“When I got the email [that I matched] I jumped so bad that my dog got spooked and ran off my bed. It felt like so much weight has lifted off my shoulders. The culmination of 4 years really led up to this moment!” said Class of 2026 student pharmacist Nicole Camacho who matched with MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital.

When asked what her favorite thing about WSU’s preparation for this moment was, Class of 2026 student pharmacist Sophia Clinton replied, “The community! I love how supportive the staff is and how friendly the students are. As soon as I started pharmacy school at WSU, I knew I found a home away from home.” Clinton matched with Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Beaverton, Oregon.

The college prepares students for residency in multiple ways including incorporating collaborative projects with current residents, seminars to familiarize students with the ASHP match process, and an annual career fair where over 25 representatives from various health systems and community pharmacies recruit WSU student pharmacists.

“These fantastic match rates are just a testament of how well we prepare students for clinical careers in pharmacy,” said Interim Dean Julie Akers. “This year’s match rates really show the strength of our faculty and alumni mentorship, interview prep, quality rotation sites, and an overall culture that focuses on career success.”

Phase II of ASHP matches will be completed on April 22.
