April 2025 Updates

  • October 12, 2024: Emily Hitt (Drug Information Academic Fellow) presented a CE presentation titled “New Drug Approvals in 2024 & Biosimilars,” for the Washington State Pharmacy Association/Spokane Pharmacy Association Pharmacy Technician Day in Spokane, Washington.
  • Julie Akers and Terri Levien presented on March 2, 2025 at the WSPA New Drugs New Laws meeting. Julie covered new and upcoming state and federal laws and rules and Terri provided a very robust presentation on the many new medications approved, or with modified approval, last year.

Service

  • Pharmaceutical Sciences Associate Professor and Vice Chair John Clarke was selected as the British Toxicology Society-ASPET Global Scholar representing ASPET. Dr. Clarke was the only person from BTS who was selected to attend ASPET. The British Toxicology Society meeting will occur April 2 – 4 2025.
  • Pharmaceutical Sciences Professor and Interim Chair Kay Meier is the ASPET-President Elect, term begins on July 1, 2025.

Grants & Awards

  • Jingrui Chen (Research Associate, ZK Cheng lab) received the Career Development Award ($231,000, 4/1/2025 – 3/31/2028) from the American Heart Association (AHA) for a research project titled, “Targeting CDK7 for cardiac repair.”

  • Elizabeth D. Oke (graduate student, Natesan Lab) gave a platform talk and a poster presentation, “Structural Determinants of Agonist and Antagonist Effects at the Cannabinoid Receptors,” at the Biophysical Society 69 Annual Meeting (February15-19) in Los Angeles, CA.

  • Ayobami Diyaolu (Pharmaceutical Sciences, Natesan Lab) presented a poster, “Characterization of an open-state GABAA receptor using in-silico mutagenesis and molecular dynamics simulations,” at the Biophysical Society conference (February 15-19, 2025) in Los Angeles, CA.
  • Ayobami Diyaolu (Pharmaceutical Sciences, Natesan Lab) also participated in the graduate student’s poster competition at the Biophysical Society conference and was awarded the Channels and Transporters Subdivision’s “Student Research Achievement Award.”
