SUMMARY:CPPS 3-Minute Thesis Competition
DESCRIPTION:Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is an academic research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland (UQ)\, Australia. This event challenges graduate students to present a compelling speech about their research and its significance to non-academic persons in just three minutes using only one presentation image. 3MT® commenced in 2008 and is currently held in over 900 universities across more than 85 countries worldwide. \nThe competition highlights the research conducted by graduate students while developing research students’ ability to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience. The winner of the college competition will advance to the all-WSU competition\, which will be held March 25 in Pullman.

SUMMARY:Career Seminar Series: My Pharmacy Career Path
DESCRIPTION:Ashley Bruck is a Market Pharmacist with Walgreens in the Spokane\, Washington region\, where she has spent her 25-year professional career. She joined the Washington State University (WSU) College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2025 as an Academic Affiliate\, co-instructing Pharmacy Law in spring of 2026. After graduating from WSU’s Doctor of Pharmacy program\, Bruck spent the first 12 years of her career as a Pharmacy Manager. She then transitioned into specialty pharmacy\, where she practiced as an American Academy of HIV Medicine Pharmacist for three years. Bruck’s true passion is in the many opportunities her career has provided in coaching and mentoring others. She has traveled across the country from Alaska to Georgia\, helping to onboard new graduate interns and pharmacists with Walgreens. Bruck was part of the immunization team that provided the first Covid vaccine to residents of long-term care facilities in Spokane\, northern Idaho\, and rural communities throughout. SUMMARY:Career Seminar Series: Professional Pathways in Pediatric Pharmacy and the Need for Professional Leadership
DESCRIPTION:Emily Benefield (’08) is the Director of Hospital Pharmacy Services at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Dr. Benefield’s journey began at Washington State University\, where she earned her Bachelor of Sciences and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees. During her PGY1 and PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residencies at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center\, Dr. Benefield found her calling as a pediatric pharmacist. Upon completion of her post-graduate training\, Dr. Benefield practiced at Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital in the Pediatric and Cardiac Intensive Care Units. She subsequently transitioned her practice to the Solid Organ Transplant services\, caring for pediatric organ recipients throughout the continuum of care. During this time\, Dr. Benefield served as the PGY1 Residency Site Coordinator and founded the PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy residency at Primary Children’s Hospital\, demonstrating her commitment to developing the next generation of pediatric pharmacy leaders. \n  \nDr. Benefield joined the leadership team at Seattle Children’s Hospital as the Pharmacy Clinical Programs Manager leading a team of highly qualified\, decentralized pharmacists and impacting the care of pediatric patients on a larger scale. She was promoted to the Director role with oversight over the inpatient pharmacy operations\, decentralized pharmacy services\, and the investigational drug service. Dr. Benefield concurrently earned her Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Utah while serving the patients and team members at Seattle Children’s. SUMMARY:Career Seminar Series: Miles of Molecules: My scenic career journey with unexpected detours
DESCRIPTION:Manpreet Chahal earned his bachelor’s degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Washington in 2001. Driven to help develop more effective and safe chemotherapy agents\, he pursued graduate studies at Washington State University\, enrolling in the Pharmacology and Toxicology PhD program in January 2002. Under the mentorship of Dr. Kay Meier\, his dissertation research focused on elucidating aberrant cell signaling pathways in cancer cell line models. In 2006\, he concurrently enrolled in the Doctor of Pharmacy program. He successfully defended his dissertation in August 2008 and earned his PharmD in May 2010. \n  \nAfter working inpatient pharmacy settings\, in 2012 he secured a position as a Clinical Oncology Pharmacist at Summit Cancer Centers\, fulfilling his lifelong dream of working directly with oncology patients. In this role\, he also served as an investigational pharmacist for industry-sponsored clinical trials\, gaining valuable experience collaborating with medical science liaisons and clinical scientists. \n  \nIn 2017\, Manpreet started working as Field Medical Director at Pfizer Oncology. In this role he has supported breast cancer\, colon cancer\, melanoma\, cervical cancer\, and the Phase 1 pipeline. \n  \nManpreet has continued to give back to WSU in various ways\, including serving as an Adjunct Faculty at the WSU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences\, where he passionately lectures and mentors PharmD and graduate students—a role he admits brings him great personal fulfillment. DESCRIPTION:Chris Pierce\, PharmD\, is the chief executive for the Costco Health Solutions team including oversight of commercial self-insured PBM business\, the Costco Member Prescription Program\, and strategic business development. In addition\, his responsibilities have included the business development of Costco’s Rx e-commerce facilities\, central fill pharmacy depots\, and the expansion of Costco’s pharmacy specialty services. SUMMARY:CPPS 3-Minute Thesis Competition
DESCRIPTION:Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is an academic research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland (UQ)\, Australia. This event challenges graduate students to present a compelling speech about their research and its significance to non-academic persons in just three minutes using only one presentation image. 3MT® commenced in 2008 and is currently held in over 900 universities across more than 85 countries worldwide. \nThe competition highlights the research conducted by graduate students while developing research students’ ability to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience. The winner of the college competition will advance to the all-WSU competition\, which will be held March 26 in Pullman.
