SUMMARY:Career Seminar Series: How a college competition led to a thriving pharmacy career
DESCRIPTION:In 2013\, Erik Nelson graduated from the WSU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences\, embarking on an unexpected journey. During school\, his team triumphed in the NCPA business plan competition\, paving the way for Nelson to acquire Sixth Avenue Pharmacy in Spokane\, just five months after graduation. What started as a single venture expanded into a thriving enterprise—now comprising of three pharmacies\, including Koru Pharmacy and Suncrest Pharmacy. Beyond his footprint with these three pharmacies\, his involvement extends to a minority interest in four other pharmacies. As part of the Cascadia Pharmacy group\, he owns the largest independent pharmacy chain in the Pacific Northwest with 30 locations across Washington\, Idaho\, and Oregon. Proudly serving on the Dean’s Advisory Council\, he has also delved into functional medicine through a fellowship with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M). His journey\, fueled by passion and dedication\, continues to script a story of success and community impact in the world of pharmacy. \nPlease RSVP to receive a lunch compliments of STCU and Walgreens! \nSpokane Location: SPBS 101 – Walgreens Auditorium \nYakima Location: CSC 101

SUMMARY:Pharmacy Careers: A pharmacist's role in gender affirming care
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in pursuing your Doctor of Pharmacy\, but not sure how that translates to a career? Join us for a conversation with Dr. Cheyenne Frazier\, one of our faculty whose clinical passion is improving the care for people who are transgender and gender-diverse. \nIn her PGY2 ambulatory care residency Frazier worked in a gender-affirming clinic where she learned about medications for people who are transgender\, and she heard first-hand from her patients how stigma and barriers to health care affected them. She became passionate about educating students and health care providers about medical care for people who are transgender\, as well as cultural competency to create affirming spaces. She teaches transgender care in the WSU Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum and she has presented on these topics\, as well as the use of gender affirmation hormone therapy at national pharmacy organization meetings. She is a member of the Gender Resource Alliance of the Inland Northwest – a group that focuses on improving the care of transgender patients. In addition to her passion for gender affirming care\, she spends time at the Mann-Granstaff VA Medical Center in Spokane\, Washington where she has an ambulatory care clinic to care for patients with diabetes and other chronic medical conditions. She will share her educational and clinical journey and answer questions about the practice of gender affirming clinical pharmacy. You won’t want to miss this! \nSign Up
