SUMMARY:CPPS Virtual Research Seminar Series Speaker Matthew Redinbo
DESCRIPTION:Matt Redinbo received his PhD at UCLA in biochemistry and structural biology\, and then performed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle in structural biology. He joined UNC Chapel Hill in 1999 as an Assistant Professor\, has moved through the ranks and served as Chair of the Chemistry Department. He is now Kenan Distinguished Professor of Chemistry\, Biochemistry\, Microbiology and Genomics with appointments in UNC’s College of Arts and Sciences and its School of Medicine. His current research is focused on the gut microbiota’s influence on human health.

DESCRIPTION:2021 BIOETHICS GRAND ROUNDS: HEALTH PROFESSIONAL RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS DURING PANDEMIC\nSponsored by the Certificate Program in Medical Ethics \nAPRIL 28\, 2021\nNoon – 1:00 p.m. \nRegister \nRegistration is free \nSpeakers\nMATTHEW WYNIA\, PHD\, MPH\nDirector\, Center for Bioethics and Humanities University of ColoradoDr. Wynia led the Institute for Ethics at the American Medical Association for 15 years. He is past president of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities\, past chair of the American Public Health Association Ethics Forum\, and past chair of the Ethics Committee of the Society for General Internal Medicine. He has served on numerous panels including with the National Academy of Medicine\, The Joint Commission\, and the blue ribbon panel on coercive Interrogation for the American Psychological Association. In addition\, he has led national projects on public health and disaster ethics. \nHEIDI MALM\, PHD\nProfessor of Philosophy Loyola University Chicago\nDr. Malm serves as the bioethicist on several committees for the National Institutes of Health and has been among the most influential philosophers in conceptual bioethics. Her areas of specialization include moral theory\, bioethics\, and law. Her article\, “Ethics\, Pandemic\, and the Duty to Treat” won an award for best paper in bioethics.
