SUMMARY:Career Seminar Series: Relationships\, Opportunities\, Branding\, Preparing for the Job of the Future
DESCRIPTION:Relationships\, building your brand and establishing who you are in pharmacy\, being open to opportunities\, and realizing how small the world of pharmacy is will enable you to prepare for your job of the future. \nMerrie Kay Alzola joins us to share her expertise as a pharmacist with over 22 years of practice experience and 10 years of industry account management. After over two decades in community pharmacy leadership with Fred Meyer Pharmacy (a division of The Kroger Company)\, she joined Novo Nordisk in 2014 as a Market Access Account Manager in the Pacific Northwest. She completed a 6-month home office rotation in Princeton New Jersey with the Market Access Strategy and Innovation team in 2018 to strengthen her market knowledge and leadership skills. She was promoted to the Market Development Obesity team in 2020 where she currently collaborates with large self-funded employers\, employee benefit consultants\, coalitions\, and grassroots organizations to share education around obesity as a complex disease. Given that over half the American population is overweight or obese\, the need to change the stigma around obesity being a lifestyle choice to a disease of genetic\, environmental\, and behavioral components is a daily focus. \nHer focus has always been around putting the patient at the center of their own health care and was innovative in the early ’90s by establishing a community diabetes program in collaboration with key thought leaders in the area along with multiple other prescriptive authority protocols. \n\nSpokane: PBS 101\nYakima: CSC 101\n\nStudents\, please RSVP so we have an accurate count for lunch numbers. \nThank you to STCU and Walgreens for sponsoring the Career Seminar Series.
