Yadira Pérez Páramo

Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Molecular Medicine
Yadira Pérez Páramo, a Fulbright Scholar from Mexico, began pursuing her PhD in 2015. Her studies focused on understanding the impact of pharmacogenomics in nicotine metabolism and addiction in different populations. Yadira authored four research articles and contributed to two others. She has won numerous awards including the 2019 WSU Graduate Student Woman of Distinction award and multiple travel awards to present her research at prestigious conferences. She served as the president of the Graduate Research Student Association from 2018–2019 and as Treasurer for the Association for Women in Science-Inland WSU from 2017–2019. In her free time, Yadira enjoys mentoring members in the US-Mexico program Women Leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM). After graduation, Yadira will continue her career in drug development in the biotech company Genentech/Roche.

Santos Rivera

Doctor of Pharmacy candidate, Yakima
Santos Rivera and his family relocated to Yakima, Washington in 2015 from Denver, Colorado. His passion for pharmacy began with his work at the Colorado Department of Public Health with the Colorado AIDS Drug Assistance Program, where he worked with local pharmacies to provide HIV/AIDS medications to those in need. Since pursuing his Doctor of Pharmacy degree at WSU, Santos served as Vice President of Patient Care from 2018–2020 for the WSU Yakima chapter of the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP), helping to serve the community of Yakima. Santos, along with classmates Minwoo Park and Zachary Rozinek, was able to compete in the 2019 National Community Pharmacists Association’s Student Business Plan and placed in the top 10 nationally. Following graduation, Santos will continue his training as a PGY1 pharmacy resident at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

Majid Nazir

Doctor of Pharmacy candidate, Spokane
Majid Nazir grew up in Federal Way, Washington and helped out with the family business at an early age, developing a passion for connecting with others and building relationships. He completed his bachelor’s in biology at the University of Washington. After working at a long-term care facility as a medical technician and developing life-changing relationships with the residents, Majid decided to pursue a career in pharmacy to make a difference for patients not only with their medical needs but also providing support and a lending hand personally. He pursued his passions in pharmacy school through various leadership roles including student government while serving both as Associated Students of WSU Health Sciences (ASWSUHS) Pharmacy Senator and Vice President. In addition, he has been heavily involved in policy and advocacy for the pharmacy profession and served as the Region 7 delegate for APhA-ASP. Majid also served as an ambassador for the college and helped to establish a new organization for students interested in a career in industry known as Industry Pharmacists Organization (IPhO). His proudest achievement is earning national honors through Rho Chi honors society while concurrently pursuing various leadership roles and working as an intern pharmacist. Following his graduation from the program, Majid plans to start working in community pharmacy, but hopes to pursue mental health and/or academia long-term.
